It is practically impossible for a gardener to do gardening work without some gardening equipment. Various factors determine the kind of equipment that you will buy and use. These factors are: the size and capacity of your garden, the amount of time that you can devote to gardening, your ability to handle particular gardening equipment and last but no t the least, the amount that you can afford to spend on it.

Most gardeners may not have sophisticated or expensive tools, yet all have some kind of gardening equipment for the purpose of cultivation. These tools can be hand held or power tools and your choice will depend on the kind of seriousness you do gardening with. Hand tools like shovels, rakes, spading forks, diggers and trowels are easy to use and do not require you to be too strong t use them .These can be employed for getting the garden ready for the planting work. Other tools are pickaxe, wheel cultivator, and mattock.

Power tools may be a bit expensive as compared to the hand tools but they can cut down heavily on your labor. The gardening equipment that is indispensable for a gardener is the tiller. Tiller breaks the ground up preparing it for the planting work, chop up the debris present in the soil and facilitate mixing of compost and fertilizer in the soil. Other popular power tools are garden shredders, chain saws and chippers.

For pruning shrubs, small trees or hedges in the yard, some pruning tools may come in handy. For branches around ¾” diameter pruning shears can be used, while for branches of half inch to 2 inches, lopping shears can be used. For branches of about 15 feet, pole pruners can be used. For a serious gardener, the pruning saws and hedge shears, both being larger are essentially more heavy duty.

Since watering is an essential part of plant care, watering equipment for your garden is a must. The one thing that is indispensable is a water hose, other than that you can also use sprinklers or drip hose etc. Even timer based sprinklers and drip hoses are also available.

Gardening equipments are probably the most essential and useful part of gardening. There are a few people, for sure, who don’t mind getting a tad bit dirty while planting plants and caring for them, but even those people own some of the basic gardening tools such as the rake or hoe. Thus gardening equipments are as important in gardening as the seeds and dirt.
